Award for Chongqing Landmark Riverside Park

Chongqing Landmark Riverside Park in China has been recognised for its design.

It has won a Silver Award in the design/development category at the ICSC China Shopping Centre & Retailer Awards 2017.

Owned by partners Hongkong Land and China Merchants Shekou Holdings, the complex opened in October 2015. The mixed-use development is the largest riverside commercial centre and gateway in the upper Yangtze region.

Australian headquartered global architectural and consulting practice Woods Bagot designed the park’s retail and office tower as well as public area interiors. French architect Paul Andreu, who is professor of architecture at Zhejiang University, was responsible for master planning while the architectural design was in the hands of Hong Kong-based LWK & Partners.

“It is perfectly positioned in an area of enriched heritage and history, ” says Woods Bagot principal Billy Ip.

He says that with influences from ancient Europe and traditional Chinese culture, the project was designed to link the city’s storied past to its promising future, and to connect local society with the world through a multicultural environment.

Chongqing Landmark Riverside Park is in the CBD of Danzishi in Chongqing’s Nanan district, overlooking Chongqing Grand Theatre and Chaotianmen Harbour. It is on the waterfront between the Yangtze and Jialiang rivers.

With a total gross floor area of 120,000 sqm, the development features a shopping centre and involved the habitation of 1km of marble stone streets as well as the renovation of a French navy barracks.

Attractions at the park include a Madame Tussauds waxwork museum and aquarium brand Sea Life, both managed by UK-based Merlin Entertainments.

Built against a slope down to the river, the project can be accessed from several levels by different modes of transport.
