On the topmost level of mixed-use complex Jewel Changi Airport (Jewel), a new park is designed to be a lifestyle leisure attraction for both travellers and locals.

Covering about 14,000 sqm, the equivalent of 11 Olympic pools, the new Changi Canopy Park features play attractions, gardens, walking trails and dining outlets.

A JV between Changi Airport Group, the manager of Singapore Changi Airport, and CapitaLand, through its wholly owned shopping mall business CapitaLand Mall Asia, Jewel is scheduled to open in early 2019.

There are three iconic play attractions: Canopy Mazes, Discovery Slides and Sky Nets. Designed by consultants from Britain, France, Germany, Singapore and The Netherlands, the play attractions allow visitors to bounce, roam and slide in the indoor garden environment.

The Sky Nets combine bouncing and walking, including a void that looks down 25m to Jewel’s first level. The Canopy Mazes comprise a hedge maze with a watch tower, and a mirror maze, while the Discovery Slides is a four-slides-in-one sculptural playscape in a garden environment.

There are also open areas where young children can wander amid the greenery. A feature are the four Foggy Bowls with an element of mist.

Finally, the 50m Canopy Bridge offers a vantage point to view the 40m-high Rain Vortex. The bridge is 23m above ground and has a glass panel floor in the centre portion.

Jewel will house one of the largest indoor collections of plants in Singapore. About 22,000 sqm of space is dedicated to landscaping throughout the complex. Canopy Park itself has more than 1400 trees and palms.

There are two special gardens – the Topiary Walk with its animal shapes, and Petal Garden, which will feature seasonal floral displays.

Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, Jewel will feature a dome-shaped facade of glass and steel. It will offer airport services, indoor gardens and leisure attractions, retail and dining offerings as well as a hotel, all under one roof.
