Third Uniqlo U Paris collection on the way

Japanese casualwear retailer Uniqlo will launch its third Uniqlo U collection at stores around Japan and through its online store on September 29.

From the designers at the Uniqlo Paris R&D Center, led by artistic director Christophe Lemaire, the range aims to take wardrobe basics forward through design, pattern, fabric development and stitching innovations.

It will be available at 62 stores and online in 19 countries and territories. All domestic stores will sell parts of the range, which comprises 46 women’s and 27 men’s items as well as 11 accessories.

A feature of the collection is the use of 3D U-Knit, a three-dimensional knitting technique that uses special technology to enhance fit and comfort, says Uniqlo. A 3D U-Knit was developed at Innovation Factory, a JV established last year by parent company Fast Retailing and knitting-machine manufacturer Shima Seiki. By producing knitwear as one entire piece, seams are eliminated.

Additions to the Uniqlo U line-up this season include Blocktech coats, the technology offering protection against wind and water while also being breathable. Also debuting are seamless down track jackets for both genders.
