SCAD Hong Kong students in spotlight

Three SCAD Hong Kong fashion students have been selected for the upcoming fourth Fashion Showcase.

Featuring senior-year fashion students and newly graduated alumni from the Savannah College of Art and Design’s four campuses, including Hong Kong, the Fashion Showcase attracts recruiters from international fashion brands. The Business of Fashion Global Fashion School Rankings this year named the SCAD graduate luxury and fashion management program as top in the world for learning experience.

Being curated by SCAD School of Fashion dean Michael Fink, Fashion Showcase 2018 will be presented at the Hong Kong campus on January 11. Leading the catwalk lineup will be collections by Hong Kong students Endra Devi, Rosalina Ma and Sammy Leung.

After graduating as a fashion design major at SCAD Hong Kong, Leung is working in the costume department at Disney. His collection, City of Darkness, is men’s streetwear inspired by vintage denim and the Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong. Each piece features complex asymmetric shapes and layering reminiscent of the construction of the Walled City.

Ma graduated as a fashion design major from SCAD Hong Kong last year and draws on her travel experiences to inform her work. Morocco Tropica is a resort-wear collection inspired by Moroccan mosaics, hand-knotted carpets and kaftans.

Devi is a fashion design major at SCAD, a Hong Kong native with Filipino and Indian roots. Her Dark Paradise collection was inspired by the notorious “club kids” of the ’80s, with bold patterns featuring a psychedelic tropical print with elements of embroidery, crystals, laser cutting, quilting and bonding.
