Cebu about to gain first Go Lokal store

The Philippines Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-7) is about to open its first Go Lokal store for Cebu.

Go Lokal is a retail concept store showcasing innovative, quality Philippine products crafted, designed and produced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DTI-7 regional director Asteria Caberte said her office is finalising pre-opening preparations for the store, in Ayala Center Cebu.

DTI secretary Ramon Lopez says that at least six shopping malls and department stores have committed to allocate space for the Go Lokal! outlets.

“This is not just another souvenir-type display,” says Lopez, saying the initiative aims to introduce world-class, high-end Pinoy products to mainstream consumers.

In Cebu for instance, Cebuano-made products that make it into the international market will be made available in Go Lokal stores.

DTI serves as matchmaker between malls and department stores to obtain the right concessions in the Go Lokal, with an ideal space being 70sqm. Homegrown tenants recommended by the DTI can display their products free of charge.
