Founded in 2014, Maissone is described by the organisers of GIA as “a boutique homeware retailer and e-store, providing high-quality merchandise with outstanding customer service by shipping directly to customers from the online store”.

Maissone’s philosophy of always looking for new products and strategies appealed to the regional judges which named the Singapore store, Southeast Asia regional finalist.

“Its unique location within a shophouse setting creates a strong community feel and inspirational shopping experience,” GIA said. “The physical space is an extension of the online store concept – a virtual business card and portfolio for the company, its online “home’.”

Other finalists from Asia in this year’s awards are Cuccina, a small homewares store in China, and Tokyu Hands, an eclectic Japanese department store specialising in homewares.

Each national GIA winner is invited to the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago where the global GIA jury, consisting of four experts representing Asia, Europe and the Americas, plus a rotating group of co-sponsoring trade publication editors from around the world, will select up to five GIA Global Honorees, the winners of the Martin M Pegler Award for Excellence in Visual Merchandising and the GIA Digital Commerce Award for Excellence in Online Retailing.

The winners from each region will be honored at a festive awards dinner on Saturday, March 10, during the 2018 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago.
