New Lululemon CEO comes from Sephora Americas role

The new Lululemon CEO named overnight is Calvin McDonald, the former head of LVMH-owned beauty retailer Sephora.

Replacing Laurent Potdevin, who left the athleisure wear retailer in February due to “inappropriate workplace behaviour,” McDonald will take up the role in August. He will also join the Canadian company’s board.

McDonald has spent the last five years as president and CEO of Americas for Sephora.

“Calvin McDonald has an impressive track record leading organisations through periods of significant growth and innovation,” said Lululemon chairman Glenn Murphy, announcing the appointment. “He is the ideal match for the Lululemon brand and culture given his strong consumer mindset, performance-driven approach and success developing people.

“Each member of our board met him during our thorough process. We’re confident Calvin will maintain the momentum in the business and take Lululemon to new heights.”

The new Lululemon CEO was credited with delivering double-digit growth year after year while at Sephora, by boosting the product range, creating new digital platforms and expanding into new markets such as Brazil and Mexico.

“I’m joining Lululemon at an exciting time, with the brand’s strong business momentum, guest loyalty and passionate employees,” said McDonald. “I look forward to working with the talented team at Lululemon to deliver long-term growth through great product, constant innovation and serving guests however they choose to engage with us, today and into the future.”
