Macau retailers report rising trade

Two in three Macau retailers reported rising year-on-year sales in June, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

While that figure is two percentage points less than the number in May, it shows the retail recovery in Macau is ongoing. However it appears driven by luxury goods and fashion, with fewer supermarkets and cosmetics retailers reporting an improvement.

And overall, 18 per cent of Macau retailers interviewed reported a year-on-year decline, up four percentage points on May.

Meanwhile, nearly one in two Macau restaurants reported increased sales in June.

The DSEC said 47 per cent of restaurateurs polled reported sales rose during the month – up 6 per cent on May’s 41 per cent.

Among Chinese restaurants the figure was even higher, at 65 per cent, with only 37 per cent of Western eateries on the improve. Korean and Japanese restaurants declined.
