A new retail concept just opened in Ma On Shan, billed as the territory’s first airport-themed store, is targeting travellers and outdoors enthusiasts.

The airport-styled interior design features three core elements. 

The right side of the store is full of travel ideas, including flags of various countries, boarding passes, travel destinations, creating the background of the store design. The cashier station located at centre of the store resembles a check-in counter at an airport, complete with a baggage conveyor.

The third part is a shoe-fitting area located on the left-hand side of the shop, resembling the boarding area of an airport, rounding out the design concept.

“The key focus is the runway area in front of the cashier, with illuminating effect and VR technology, the design connects shoppers and the shop,” said founder Onyx Lau.

“1000 Miles hopes to create a comfortable shopping experience to shoppers with this innovative store design and give shoppers an unforgettable memory.”

1000 Miles stocks products from Hoka One One, Merrell, PacSafe, The North Face, and numerous other international outdoor brands for sports lovers and travellers. Sports apparel, shoes, backpacks, safety goods and outdoor accessories are all on sale alongside innovative travel accessories for travel lovers, such as a mini wireless iron, portable coffee tumbler, mini camera and smartphone accessories. That range has been curated in partnership with Searching C, an online store featuring unusual technology and design products.

The name 1000 Miles was inspired by Dao De Jing of Lao Tzu, which has a motivational quote: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

“A road of 1000 miles has to start from the very beginning,” explained Lau. “Even the longest venture has a starting point and endurance is the key to success.

“Work-life balance has been gaining awareness among Hongkongers in recent years. People love to explore the world with family and friends and create countless memorable journeys. Some challenge themselves by skydiving, skiing and some love to go hiking and camping.”

1000 Miles is located on the second floor of Sunshine City Most Town on Luk Street, Man On Shan.
