Singapore’s Hello Kitty cafe at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 will close on February 8.

While the venue opened conspicuously in 2016 to long queues as the world’s first 24-hour Hello Kitty cafe, an announcement by the cafe on Facebook definitively stated plans for complete closure without plans to relocate. The closure coincides with the end of the company’s licence and partnership with Sanrio, which owns the Hello Kitty Brand.

Assistant manager for marketing at cafe owner Europa Specialty Restaurant, Fiona Chin, told The Straits Times: “We would like to express gratitude and appreciation to all the fans and supporters of the cafe. We are humbled by the support and look forward to bringing our customers more exciting F&B themes and concepts.”

Four tea parties will be held at the cafe in December to mark its closure, with admission to ticket holders only.
