West Kowloon MTR Dufry stores trading well

Duty free retailer Dufry says the three stores it has opened in the new West Kowloon MTR station connecting Hong Kong with the Chinese mainland are trading well.

Dufry hold a five-year contract to run the stores covering 1500sqm of retail space, and began operating as soon as the station opened in September. It will serve 80,000 passengers every day, predominantly Chinese and Hong Kong nationals.

Regional CEO Andrea Belardini said: “Before opening the store, we carried out extensive analysis and observed how Chinese customers were spending in airports, as well as how they were spending in the border shops and we took elements of both of these into account when building our commercial assortment for the West Kowloon MTR … we can definitely confirm that there is a great deal of appreciation for the premium and sophisticated product lines we offer.”

Liquor and beauty items are early high performers as the business develops.
