Original Kinokuniya Singapore bookstore to close

Kinokuniya Singapore is to close its oldest branch, at Liang Court in River Valley Road.

The store, which opened in 1983, was the Japanese bookseller’s first branch in Asia outside its home market. It will close on April 21.

The 13,000sqft space has 150,000 titles in English, Japanese and Chinese, as well as discounted books.

“We seek to consolidate and channel our limited resources for better deployment among our other business units,” Books Kinokuniya said in a notice.

Kinokuniya Singapore has three other retail outlets: at Ngee Ann City, Bugis Junction and Jem.
