The Hong Kong Correctional Services Department has released an inspirational video to encourage young people in custody to keep trying, learn from failure and treasure family relationships.

“A Coffee Story” features noted artist Moses Chan who, by comparing life to making coffee, attempts to inspire viewers during a visit to the training restaurant Cafe Rehapuccino, newly established this year in Pik Uk Correctional Institution.

In the film, Chan demonstrates how to make coffee and discusses his experience. He says that being mindful, keeping on trying and understanding that failure is not the result but an experience are all essential in making a perfect cup of coffee, just as they are in daily life.

Chan also shares his feelings as a father and expresses hope that young persons in custody can cherish family love in order to maintain family relationships and get through rough and hard times together.

The video also shows a Father’s Day event held at Cafe Rehapuccino, in which young persons in custody make coffee with latte art for their parents to show their gratitude by using the skills they have learnt.

The video and cafe are both examples of the CSD’s efforts to rehabilitate persons in custody, including providing various types of market-oriented vocational training and helping them to acquire recognised qualifications, to strengthen their employability.
