Japan’s Fast Retailing has opened a giant Uniqlo store in the heart of Hamburg.

Located at the historic Alter Wall building, the store spans four stories, occupying a 1750sqm area.

“Both the facade and the mosaics inside the former bank building show maritime elements, the fisheries, trade and shipping sectors that were once relevant for Hamburg,” the company said in a statement.

“This store is the best way to deliver our Lifewear concept to the community,” said Frederic Brebant, business expansion manager at Uniqlo Europe.

Uniqlo Hamburg offers men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, including Uniqlo’s LifeWear range. The store also features an exclusive selection of cashmere sweaters in 50 colours.

Uniqlo Germany has also partnered with local artist and illustrator Stefan Mosebach to introduce his artwork on exclusive t-shirts with playful motifs.

“A local reference is important to us in each of our stores,’ the company said.

Uniqlo entered Germany in 2014 and now operates nine stores there.
