Wayback Burgers ramps up Asia expansion plan, entering Japan

US-based fast-food chain Wayback Burgers is expanding its presence in Asia, launching its first restaurant in Japan. 

The plan will see 60 stores open in Japan during the next 20 years. The company is also eyeing other markets including India, China, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Wayback Burger Japan was launched under an agreement with WB Burger Asia. The Tokyo flagship restaurant is located Omotesando, featuring a spacious outdoor seating area. Besides its meat offerings, the restaurant also introduce a plant-based menu with meat alternatives provided by Tokyo-based food tech venture company Next Meats. 

“Our first location in Omotesando will be the flagship restaurant, not only in Japan but in Asia, where we plan to continue expansion,” said Koichi Ishizuka, the head of WB Burger Asia and Next Meats. 

Wayback Burgers currently operates more than 166 locations across the US and international markets, including Brunei, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Pakistan and The Netherlands. The chain recently reported a 26-per-cent year-on-year growth for last year.
