South Korea’s The Nature Holdings has opened National Geographic’s first store in China – and revealed plans by the brand to launch in more markets.

The new National Geographic China store spans 120sqm on the first floor of the bustling Hopson One shopping mall in Beijing.

The opening heralds the beginning of a broad expansion plan for China, where it aims to add eight more stores in key cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, this year. The apparel brand also eyes expanding its physical presence in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The first Taiwan store has recently opened inside the Lalaport shopping mall in Taichung. National Geographic also has eight stores in Hong Kong.

National Geographic is on track to open four stores in key cities, including Sydney by the end of this year, with an eventual target of eight across Australia and New Zealand.

According to Pulse, the chain is also planning to open stores in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

National Geographic’s China debut was plotted last year after The Nature Holdings established a joint venture in the country, in which it holds a majority stake.

The Nature Holdings’ portfolio of brands includes NFL, Barrel, Mark Gonzales and Vera Wang.
