Denmark-based retailer Flying Tiger Copenhagen is accelerating its expansion plan in Southeast Asia, opening first brick-and-mortar locations in the Philippines and Indonesia.

The brand has signed a franchise agreement with SSI Group to launch its first store in the Philippines next month at Glorietta 4 in Makati, marking the brand’s first foray into Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Flying Tiger Copenhagen partnered with local retail giant PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk to roll out stores in the country.

“Two markets where we see an incredible potential for our brand, and we are certain that our products and design will be well-received by even more Asian customers,” the company said.

“We look forward to expanding our footprint in Asia where we are already present in Japan and South Korea.”

CEO Martin Jermiin told Bloomberg in March that the Danish chain has already signed contracts for almost half of the new 1000 locations it plans to establish over the next five years, as it expands into Asia to more than double its global store count.

The company will establish an Asian headquarters in Singapore and plans to exclude China, which the CEO described as “a very complex and differentiated” market.

Flying Tiger Copenhagen, founded in 1995, offers a diverse range of products including sports and wellness, food, home, and stationery. The brand has about 892 stores in 33 countries.
