IconSiam’s Grand Chinese New Year Celebration promises unprecedented spectacle

IconSiam, a global landmark along the Chao Phraya River, has introduced an exclusive campaign to harness the power of the auspicious Year of the Dragon – expected to contribute to fostering growth of 8 to 10 per cent in economic activity within the shopping centre. 

IconSiam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture the Department of Cultural Promotion, The Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand – as well as private partners including KasikornBank, Hatakabb (Sim Tien Hor) Company, Reference Sathorn-Wongwianyai, and Tao Kae Noi – is committed to preserving and promoting Thai-Chinese cultural traditions, ushering in the New Year with a grand celebration of the Chinese New Year, The Iconsiam Eternal Prosperity Chinese New Year 2024, from February 7-11. 

This celebration not only solidifies IconSiam’s standing as a premier global destination but also presents a unique opportunity for locals and international visitors to immerse themselves in a cultural extravaganza along the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

The upcoming Chinese New Year festivities are anticipated to be a feast for the senses, featuring traditional rituals, captivating performances, and the launch of an exclusive campaign, The Great Dragon Journey 2024. This event aims to attract more than 3.5 million visitors – both Thais and international tourists – throughout February.

Highlights of the Celebration:

Traditional Rituals and Performances: Visitors can partake in traditional rituals from the Pak Tai Temple Hong Kong, hosted at IconSiam. The debut performance of the fan-bladed wheel of fortune dragon show, the first in Thailand. Diverse performances include a lion with a dragon head, traditional Sichuan Costume and Face Changing Show, and a captivating Chinese Opera Show.

Exclusive Campaign – The Great Dragon Journey 2024: Running until February 18, the campaign aims to boost spending during the Chinese New Year season. Customers stand a chance to win a trip to Hong Kong, enhancing the overall experience of celebrating the Chinese New Year.

Collaboration and Commitment: Collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Cultural Promotion, The Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trade of Thailand. Supoj Chaiwatsirikul, MD of IconSiam Company, highlighted the positive trend in tourism, with 1.3 million tourists visiting Thailand from January 1-14 this year, generating approximately 63,205 million Thai baht (US$1.8 billion) in revenue. Chinese tourists topped the list, followed by Malaysia, South Korea, Russia, and India, indicating a promising outlook for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

“It is anticipated that the Chinese New Year celebration in 2024 will bring substantial spending, exceeding 34 billion baht ($971 million), contributing to an 8-10 per cent increase in retail consumption within the shopping centre compared to the same period last year.”
