Atelier Rebul is expanding its Asian retail footprint by launching in Indonesia this year – with planning underway to open a flagship heritage store in Shanghai, China, next year.

Set to debut with two standalone outlets, the Turkish fragrance house has also secured deals with major department stores in the region, including Galerie Lafayette, Sogo, and Seibu.

Nuket Filiba, co-CEO of Atelier Rebul, told Cosmetics-Design Asia that the company is targeting other markets in Southeast Asia, in addition to Indonesia.

“We want to invest in travel corridors,” he continued. “Our presence in the Middle East has impacted Asia Pacific. We plan to open in Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, but that takes time.”

Founded in 1895 by French pharmacist Jean Cesar Rebul as a Parisian-style apothecary, the brand is known for introducing cologne to Turkey.

The brand has limited distribution in Japan and was launched in China via cross-border e-commerce four years ago.

“Our sales in China have grown by about 50 per cent annually,” said Filiba.

The upcoming heritage store in Shanghai’s Xin Tian Di area will be the brand’s second worldwide, with the first located in Istanbul. Both stores will offer personalised fragrance services.

“This experience is very important to us because it is in our DNA,” Filiba continued.

“Atelier Rebul was born in a pharmacy and used to offer personalised cosmetics. That’s what we know how to do.”
