Despite challenges, Philippines construction supplies retailer Wilcon Depot is optimistic about achieving better sales in the coming year.

“Our outlook is always positive,” shared Rosemarie Ong, COO. “Of course, we don’t have control over the external factors, but we see some improvements in all the headwinds happening in the past year.”

The company reported a 22.3 per cent decrease in net income for the first nine months of 2024, to PHP 2.12 billion (US$36.3 million), while net sales dipped by 1 per cent to PHP 25.68 billion ($439.7 million).

Wilcon Depot attributed the decline to low demand for home improvement and finishing supplies, alongside delays in construction projects caused by bad weather conditions. Expansion expenses also impacted the company’s net income.

The company operates two formats: traditional depots and smaller Do-It-Wilcon stores. Wilcon opened its 100th store in Lubao, Pampanga, in December last year.

Looking ahead, Ong said Wilcon Depot plans to open more stores this year to capitalise on growth opportunities, including renovating legacy stores.

“We will continue to expand because we see a lot of opportunities in other areas where we are not present,” she added.

“Hopefully, 2025 will be a better year for us. Once consumption improves, that will stimulate everything.”
