SM Investments is expanding its convenience store business with plans to open at least 200 new Alfamart locations this year.

Alfamart is an Indonesian convenience chain established in 1989 by Djoko Susanto. It offers a wide range of products, including frozen food, canned goods, personal care items, household essentials, and over-the-counter medicines.

The company entered the Philippine market in 2014 through a joint venture with SM and has since expanded to 2100 outlets in the country as of last year.

Harvey Ong, CEO Alfamart, said the company is committed to strengthening its presence in underserved markets within Luzon.

“Our continued growth is anchored on the needs of the neighbourhoods we serve,” said Ong. “We aim to provide the communities better value and easier access to essential goods.”

Alfamart has outlets across 11 provinces in the Philippines, including Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pangasinan and Zambales.
