Burberry has exceeded its expectations over the Christmas period, with the strongest growth coming in China.

In its most recent financial update, for the quarter ending December 27, Burberry saw comparable store sales increase by 3 per cent year-on-year, taking revenue to £665 million.

Store sales in Greater China rose 6 per cent, while sales in the Asia Pacific (Apac) region increased 5 per cent. Burberry, however, saw no growth in Europe and the Middle East.

“During the festive quarter, we continued to build momentum with our Burberry Forward strategy, delivering sequential improvement in comparable sales growth and an improved quality of revenue across channels and geographies,” Joshua Schulman, CEO, said.

Burberry said the success in Greater China and Apac was supported by double-digit growth in Gen Z customers.

Schulman added: “Our customers responded to our immersive Timeless British Luxury campaigns and experiences, while the continued strength in our core outerwear category is now extending into accessories and ready-to-wear.

“As we move into 170 years of Burberry, these results reaffirm the enduring strength of our iconic brand and give us confidence in the path ahead.”
