Subject to regulatory approvals, Estee Lauder has acquired the remaining shares of Indian luxury beauty brand Forest Essentials, completing an 18-year partnership between the two.
Stéphane de La Faverie, president and CEO of The Estee Lauder Companies, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s commitment to expanding Forest Essentials while reinforcing its position in India’s prestige beauty market.
“We have a deep appreciation for the vision and tenacity required to build a brand of this calibre,” he said.
“Together, our ambition is clear: To further strengthen the brand’s leadership at home while thoughtfully introducing it to a global audience.”
Founded in 2000 by Mira Kulkarni, Forest Essentials draws on Ayurveda, the traditional Indian holistic system of wellness that dates back about 3000 years and focuses on balancing the mind, body, and spirit.
The brand has positioned Ayurveda in the luxury beauty segment, transforming traditional rituals into modern formulations and immersive retail experiences.
Forest Essentials has since grown into a network of about 200 stores across India.
Following the acquisition, the company will remain headquartered in New Delhi and continue to be led by Kulkarni and her son, executive director Samrath Bedi.
The brand will maintain its operations in India, including research and development grounded in Ayurveda, responsible local botanical sourcing, and in-house manufacturing.
Through the partnership, Forest Essentials will leverage The Estee Lauder Companies’ global brand-building capabilities, distribution network, and operational expertise to support long-term growth while preserving the brand’s heritage.
Kulkarni said the next stage of the company’s development would focus on expanding internationally while maintaining its roots in India.
“Ayurveda is not folklore; it is a sophisticated system of science, ritual, and holistic wellbeing,” she said. “This next phase is about continuity and growth.
