Seven & I Holdings and PayPay are reportedly set to combine their customer ID and loyalty platforms, creating a database of more than 100 million members.
According to Nikkei Asia, the agreement would connect Seven & I’s 7iD membership system with PayPay’s user platform, enabling the companies to unify customer data across their businesses and broaden the reach of their rewards programs.
The report said the companies are in the final stages of negotiations, with implementation details yet to be confirmed.
The loyalty partnership is expected to be announced alongside a broader capital alliance. Nikkei reported that SoftBank and PayPay are each planning to invest about ¥100 billion (US$613 million) in Seven & I, with an announcement possible before the end of the month.
PayPay serves about 74 million users in Japan, while Seven & I’s 7iD membership program has roughly 39 million registered members.
The proposed alliance reflects growing competition among Japanese retailers and digital payment providers to build larger customer ecosystems by integrating payments, retail services and loyalty programs.
Neither Seven & i nor PayPay has announced the deal publicly.
