Uniqlo continues Thai expansion

Buoyed by a strong response from Thais, Japanese apparel company Fast Retailing will continue expanding the reach of its Uniqlo brand in Thailand.

Fast Retailing says it plans to open 10-15 new stores this year, another 15-20 in 2014 and 20-25 in 2015.

“Thais responded to the brand even better than we expected. Spending per head here is equal to or sometimes higher than in Japan,” said EVP Naoki Otoma.

The Japanese company has just opened its 10th store at Promenada Resort Mall in Chiang Mai and it says Thailand is an important important because of growth of young shoppers.

Last year, Fast Retailing opened 200 Uniqlo stores globally, almost all of them in Asia. This year will see the company opening another 200-250 stores.
