New Metro China store opens

German retailer Metro continues its China expansion with a new store opening in Zhejiang Province.

Located in Taizhou City’s East Shifu Avenue, it is the retailer’s 79th store in the nation. With 5300 sqm of sales area, it offers an assortment of nearly 15,000 items including meat, fish, dairy, office supplies, kitchen equipment and electronics.

Taizhou’s flourishing economy which ranks it among the top 50 in China in 2013 is attracting investors like Metro.

“The city’s strong private sector continues to attract independent business owners with entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to business.” said Jeroen de Groot, president of Metro China.

Bain & Company and Kantar Worldpanel’s new report shows that foreign brands are facing a sales squeeze in China as market growth slows and local companies’ street cred rises, however, Metro’s outlook remains positive.

It says their continuous effort of innovating products and services will enable them to grow customer base.
