Alexander Wang to expand

American fashion designer Alexander Wang is ramping up its Asian expansion with 15 stores expected to open by the end of this year.

Wang has chosen Asia for the focus of his expansion ahead of his home city New York and other Western fashion capitals such as Paris, London and Milan because Asian cities are more appealing to fashion world, especially China. Wang’s personal attachment to China also enticed him to give Asia more focus.

“I thought London sounds cool. But I wasn’t quite excited by that. Then I was like, ‘You know what? It should be China. I’m Chinese; it makes sense,” said Wang.

A second Alexander Wang boutique will open later this year in Beijing. To be spread across 4000 sqft, the boutique will feature full range of the designer’s collections such as men’s and women’s collections and accessories.

Wang also plans to set up retail outposts in Shanghai, Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo and Bangkok. Large shops-in-shops will also be installed in Japan, Korea and Thailand.

Alexander Wang’s first retail venture is in New York city which is a 4500sqft standalone store.
