Reliance Brands, Brooks Bros in JV

Reliance Brands, a retail subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail, has sealed a deal to sell apparel from American chain Brooks Brothers.

This tie up is the sixth international association for Reliance Brands, which already has business relationships with Iconix, Paul & Shark, Diesel and Ermenegildo Zegna.

As a part of this association, Reliance Brands and Brooks Brothers will set up luxury men’s only apparel stores across metro cities, with apparel starting at Rs. 5000 (US$100). Brooks Brothers also has women’s and childrenswear lines, which will be introduced in the later stages of the joint venture.

This association will see Brooks Brothers take a 51 per cent stake in the joint venture with Reliance taking the remaining 49 per cent.

“We partnered with Reliance Brands because of its passion for the Brooks Brothers brand, its track record with other premium brands, and its expertise and connections within India,” said Claudio Del Vecchio, chairman and CEO of Brooks Brothers.

The first Brooks Brothers store in India is expected to open by the year’s end.
Brooks Brothers has also indicated it is planning a move into Australia in the near future.

Founded in Manhattan in 1818, Brooks Brothers is the oldest men’s clothier brand in the US. Presently there are 210 Brooks Brothers stores in the US and 70 outlets in countries such as Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Dubai, France, the UK, Chile, Canada, Italy, Mexico, and Greece.
