Tommy Bahama appoints new executives

Lifestyle fashion brand Tommy Bahama has named Raymond de Malherbe as senior MD international and Brian Pearce as MD international for Asia.

“These appointments are an important statement of intention to expand our business with a seasoned team of executives that have a deep understanding of the market,” said Terry Pillow, CEO of the Tommy Bahama Group.

Pillow said de Malherbe’s well rounded background, long-term relationships and knowledge of the market are an ideal fit for Tommy Bahama while Pearce’s proven track record of success with Tommy Bahama and experience in Asia gives utmost confidence to the company’s ability to execute strategy.

The strategic appointment of de Malherbe validates the global interest in Tommy Bahama. In this position, de Malherbe will be responsible for managing all existing international business as well as expansion into new markets.

“The unique positioning of the brand carries a strong and exciting potential to appeal to the affluent customers looking for identifiable, high quality products in both developed and emerging markets,” said de Malherbe.

Pearce, who was previously senior VP of retail for Tommy Bahama, was promoted to the position to help lead the company’s expansion into Asia last year.

Based in Hong Kong, Pearce will be responsible for developing the regional retail team and rolling out the Tommy Bahama brand in Asia. His initial focus will be on site selection and building business relationships in various countries.

“I have been with Tommy Bahama for over seven years, managing the retail stores in the US. I am enjoying the challenge of using that experience, along with my international background to good use, in my role as MD of Asia,” said Pearce.

Tommy Bahama currently has licensed retail stores and distribution in Canada, Australia and Dubai and a planned expansion of company owned stores in China, Hong Kong, Tokyo and other Asian regions.

Tommy Bahama opened its first store in Macau in February 2012, followed by a first in Singapore in May. A Hong Kong store will open in November, and a signature store with a Tommy Bahama restaurant and bar in Tokyo in February.
