Pizza chain expands in Philippines

Malaysian conglomerate Berjaya Group plans to take the number of Papa John’s pizza outlets in the Philippines from 14 currently to 100 over 10 years.

Berjaya Group has the franchise rights for the US-based pizza chain for Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

“Our target is to open a total of 100 stores over 10 years, beginning two years ago,” said Francis Lee, CEO of Berjaya Food.

Initially, the expansion will concentrate in Metro Manila, with further expansion in the provinces once 35 outlets have been reached in Metro Manila.

From first outlet in Indiana in 1985, Papa John’s now has more than 3300 outlets worldwide. In China, it has more than 100 outlets.

Berjaya Group’s ventures in the Philippines also include hotel business through Berjaya Manila Hotel and gaming through Prime Gaming Management.
