Longchamp opens Hong Kong flagship

French luxury handbag maker Longchamp opens largest flagship store in Hong Kong.

The 3767 sqft Hong Kong flagship continues Longchamp’s 30-year plus relationship with the region. It features light and colour-filled spaces. The facade allows natural light to flood each of the three floors through solid glass.

The new flagship is the brand’s eight in Hong Kong. It’s size is offset by the gold filaments which pick out the signature LM design seen on Longchamp’s bags since the 1970s.

In the interior of the store, the importance of light and the use of glass continues. A three-storey glass installation rises up the central staircase, featuring solid glass panels which recreate the rainbow colours of the Longchamp Pliage bag.

“This new flagship store marks an important milestone in our relationship with Hong Kong and China, which began in 1979 when we opened our first store here in the city,” said CEO Jean Cassegrain.

Expansion plan is also directed at the mainland where it has seven stores. Without providing a timeline, Cassegrain said the company plans to reach 40 to 50 stores in China.

“It’s great timing for us to grab the opportunities in China as some of our competitors may shy away from expanding when the economy slows down,” the executive said.

Having achieved a 70 per cent sales growth in China last year, Longchamp is optimistic it will continue to see strong growth, predicting 30 per cent growth rate over the next year.

Longchamp has more than 230 stores worldwide.
