Costa Coffee brews India expansion

British coffee chain Costa Coffee plans to out-size its rivals in India through a massive expansion program.

Parent Whitbread Plc plans to open 300 new outlets in a bid to capture bigger slice of India’s cafe market. There are currently 100 Costa Coffee outlets in India and the company says they are performing well.

“We will continue to develop our product, our coffee, our food, our store environment, just completely focus on the customer to deliver a better experience,” said Whitbread CEO Andy Harrison.

Costa Coffee was launched in India in 2005, since then the coffee chain has been present in metros with outlets in Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Pune, Gurgaon, Jaipur and Agra. Globally, it is present in countries including Bahrain, Ireland, Oman, Malta and China.

Whitbread also plans expansion for its chain of hotels Premier Inn in India.
