Muji plans massive China expansion

Japanese retailer Muji plans to open 1000 new stores in China.

Muji, known for its ultra-minimalistic designs and lack of branding, has just opened its 100th store in the nation at Vanke Midtown Mall in Suzhou.

Making its foray in 2005, Muji has expanded to be present in 15 provinces and 29 cities, making China its second largest market after Japan, where it has 397 stores.

The retailer also expanded to Australia recently, opening at Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne.

Launched in 1980, Muji has more than 600 stores in key markets like Europe, the US and Asia.
