Gloria Jeans Malaysia in steady growth

Australian cafe Gloria Jeans will continue to grow its brand in Malaysia at a manageable pace.

The cafe said it will maintain its 30 per cent share of the Malaysian coffee shop market this year, trailing Starbucks and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Gloria Jeans Malaysia is franchised by Wonderful Lifestyle, a subsidiary of MyFranchise, the investment arm of the Minister of Finance Inc-backed Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNS).

“We were in third place with a 30 per cent market share for 2013 but we are not looking to increase it this year,” said Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Zainol Khodki Shahabudin, MD, Perbadanan Nasional Bhd.

This year will see Gloria Jeans opening 14 new outlets in Malaysia, in addition to the existing 31. Its master franchisee also plans opening one in Brunei.

“The Brunei outlet will be our third there. And once Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 begins operations, we will also have four outlets there.”
