Lindex to go solo in China

Swedish fashion retailer Lindex plans to open company-owned stores in China following the withdrawal of Suning as its local partner.

“We have invested a lot in knowledge, so when we now gather our troops we have learned so much that we consider opening our own stores,” said CEO Goeran Bille.

“China is a really big and growing market, so we would actually prefer to work on our own.”

Lindex, a retailer of lingerie, ladies’ wear, children’s wear and cosmetics, still remains on track to open as many as 100 stores across China by 2018. Bille said the first store could open in 2015.

While it is considering to go solo in China, it is not ruling out finding a franchise partner for the market.
