Matahari to expand

Indonesian retailer Matahari plans to open 15 new stores in 2014.

The stores will add to its existing 125 stores in 61 cities across Indonesia.

CFO Richard Gibson said Matahari also plans to renovate 25 of its existing stores this year.

“In 2013, we did not see any consumer slowdown, and we believe that is still the case this year, which is encouraging,” Gibson said.

“We see a tremendous number of under-served markets out there and our goal is to expand as rapidly as possible.”

Indonesia’s $900 billion economy, expected to grow more than five per cent this year, is expected to fuel consumer demand.
