Convenience chain plans massive expansion

Indonesian convenience chain Alfamart plans a speedy rollout this year.

Some 1200 new outlets are to be added to its existing 8550 store network. The additional stores are planned not only for Indonesia but for other Asean countries, including the Philippines.

The company says the Philippines, where spending power is growing and with a culture not so different from Indonesia, will be a feasible market.

On top of that, it will also open three distribution centres. This year’s capex will be 2 trillion rupiah ($172 million).
