Electronic City’s expansion plan

Indonesia’s Electronic City is to invest 400 billion rupiah ($34 million) into opening up to 20 new stores this year.

Some part of the capital expenditure will be used to improve existing outlets and upgrade IT systems.

It is planning to expand into new territories such as Palembang in South Sumatra and Yogyakarta and Magelang in Central Java.

The electronic goods retailer targets 96 stores by the end of next year, up from 56 stores, 16 outlets and nine warehouses as of the first quarter of 2014.

Its optimism stems from a projection that sales of electronic goods in the country will rise 10 per cent this year.
