Walmart to launch Indian e-commerce

Walmart’s online marketplace for India could go live in July.

The American retailer is reported to be launching B2B e-commerce platforms in Hyderabad and Lucknow where it has cash and carry stores. The marketplaces will offer home delivery and click and collect services, reports say.

The online platforms will be exclusive only for the members of its cash and carry stores.

Walmart plans to roll out similar B2B marketplaces in other cities where it has cash and carry stores by January 2015.

The online venture comes at a time when it is freezing the expansion of its physical stores due to probe against bribery-related allegations. It says it will not open cash and carry stores until the last quarter of 2015.
