Fast Retailing to expand GU overseas

Japanese clothing company Fast Retailing plans to boost the presence of its GU brand abroad.

A company official said it will open two GU stores in Taiwan, and more in Hong Kong, South Korea and in Southeast Asian countries.

“We’ll expand in Asia first, starting next year, and if all goes well, we plan to enter Europe and the United States within several years,” Fast Retailing VP and GU CEO Osamu Yunoki.

GU’s first overseas expansion took place in September 2013 in Shanghai.

The company also plans to expand the brand at home where it currently has 280 stores.

The expansion efforts is part of Fast Retailing’s goal to become the world’s largest clothing retailer by 2020.
