Walmart kicks off Indian e-commerce

Retail giant Walmart has launched its new Indian sales channel.

Walmart has launched wholesale e-commerce sites in Lucknow and Hyderabad, targeting local ‘kirana’ shops and other merchants within a radius of 40-50 km from the store.

The online wholesale stores offer around 5000 SKUs of products except fresh and frozen products.

Walmart plans to roll out similar B2B marketplaces in other cities where it has cash and carry stores by January 2015.

“E-commerce represents an additional channel for us to serve our members better with the added convenience of ordering online, door-step delivery within 24 hours and several payment solutions,” said Krish Iyer, president and CEO, Walmart India.

“This initiative is aimed at enhancing our members’ shopping experience by integrating physical and digital store presence,” he added.
