7-Eleven Philippines’ profit rises

Convenience chain 7-Eleven has seen its profit picked up in the second quarter.

Philippine Seven Corp, the local operator of 7-Eleven, reported a net income growth of 25 per cent to 224 million pesos ($5.14 million) in the second quarter.

“Retail sales of all stores during the April to June period went up 21.9 per cent to 5.3 billion pesos from 4.2 billion pesos last year,” the company said.

Its network count increased from 893 branches a year ago to 1121 as of June.

The Philippine convenience store market is heating up with the entry of competitors like FamilyMart. Lawson is also set to enter the country. However, Philippine Seven Corp remains confident 7-Eleven can sustain its leadership position.

“The management believes the company can sustain momentum moving forward to meet store expansion and profit goals,” it said.

“It has taken steps to protect and expand its leadership in light of increased competition, recognising that rewards for market share are especially strong in the convenience store sector.”
