Macy’s explores Chinese opportunities

American retailer Macy’s is reportedly looking for location for its first department store in China.

Some top executives have flown to China to find a place where it could open its first store in the nation, reports Women’s Wear Daily.

The company, which operates Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s department store brands, made its first move into China when it invested in Chinese e-commerce firm VIPStore, operator of omei.com, in 2012.

It operates about 840 Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores in 45 US states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Macy’s executives declined to comment on the report saying they did not discuss commercial plans prior to formal announcements. But they did not deny a China project.
