FamilyMart fast-tracks Philippine expansion

Japanese convenience chain FamilyMart aims to accelerate its expansion into the Philippines.

The chain, which forged a JV with Ayala and Rustan’s Group, hopes to capture 30 per cent of the market within five to 10 years.

Having opened the first store in April 2013 at Glorietta 3 in Makati City, FamilyMart now has more than 50 stores and targets 100 before the year ends.

FamilyMart plans to introduce a franchising option around December this year to hasten expansion.

“We will provide all out support to ensure that their business is properly run. We want them to succeed because their success is ours as well,” said Anton Huang, president of Philippine FamilyMart and SSI Group.

FamilyMart has about 9000 stores in Japan and is also present in Taiwan, Thailand, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and the US.
