KL Airport outlet mall to open May 30

The new KL Airport outlet mall at Sepang, near Kuala Lumpur, will open on May 30.

Located close to the original Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminal, and alongside a highway, the developers expect it will attract shoppers on stopover and from the nearby cities.

Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang is the result of a joint venture (JV) between Mitsui Fudosan Co and Malaysia Airports Holdings.

The outlet will be managed by the JV company, MFMA Development.

MFMA said the facility will be opened in stages, with about 130 stores trading by late July.

“There are plans to expand the facility in 2018, as well as 2021, to become the largest outlet mall in Southeast Asia with about 250 stores and floor space of about 44,000 square metres,” the companies said.

Retailers will offer luxury and branded products, fashion apparel and accessories, perfumes, cosmetics, confectionery, kids and sports wear, household items and luggage.

A 24,000sqm foodcourt is included in the first stage of the project.

Designed to be traveller friendly, Mitsui Outlet Park will provide a flight information on displays throughout the centre so travellers can keep tabs on their flights without leaving the premises. There will be a flight check-in kiosk and free baggage storage.

Mitsui Fudosan, which has 70 per cent of the JV, is a Japanese real estate and retail property developer, while MAHB manages most of the airports in Malaysia.
