Patara Thai to expand into Europe

Thai restaurant group S&P has formed a joint venture with a Singapore investor to take its brands into Europe.

The Singapore partner is MFG International, a subsidiary of Minor International, which boasts one of the largest QSR businesses in Asia, with over 1700 restaurant outlets in Thailand, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. Its brands include The Pizza Company, Thai Express, The Coffee Club, Dairy Queen, Sizzler (Thailand, China), Breadtalk, Burger King (Thailand) and Swensens.

S&P, well known for its cafe network across Thailand, as well as branded packaged consumer goods, owns four Patara Thai branded restaurants in the UK and one under Suda branding. These will be rolled into the newly established JV Patara Fine Thai Cuisine Ltd in the UK with a registered capital of £3 million.

The 50-50 partnership will invest £7 million rolling out restaurants in Europe under the Patara Thai brand, which has already earned a significant loyal following in London, especially and under the Suda name.

Minor International is listed on the Thai stock exchange – and has a 33.8 per cent cornerstone shareholding in SNP.
