Sogo parent plans store revamps

Lifestyle International Holdings, the parent of the Sogo department store in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay, says it is planning renovations and new department stores.

While it has not specified where the revamps are planned, it is most likely to be in mainland China where it currently has four stores.

Lifestyle has secured US$300 million through the issue of 10 year bonds which will be used to repay bank financing and fund capital spending “relating to store renovation and new department store projects in the future”.

Hong Kong listed Lifestyle International has two Sogo stores in Hong Kong – the flagship in Causeway Bay close to Times Square, and one in Tsim Sha Tsui which was relocated and reopened late last year.

In mainland China, the company operates stores under the Jiuguang brand. The Shanghai store was first established in 2004 with a similar business format to Sogo Causeway Bay. Further stores opened in January and May 2009 at Suzhou and Dalian

Shenyang Jiuguang, Lifestyle’s fourth Jiuguang Store in mainland China, completed its first full trading year in 2014.

The group’s commercial complex project in Zhabei, Shanghai is currently under construction and is preliminarily scheduled for completion in 2018, part of a broader mainland China expansion plan.
