Ed Hardy designer dies of cancer

The French designer who developed the Ed Hardy fashion brand has passed away in Los Angeles.

Christian Audigier, 57, revealed he had bone marrow cancer in April. He is survived by a son and two daughters.

Audigier founded the Ed Hardy fashion brand after purchasing the rights to the flamboyant designs created by tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy.

Aided by his close association with many celebrities, the brand achieved international recognition and although falling on tough times in recent years, endures today.

Prior to working with Ed Hardy, Audigier cut his teeth in the denim industry with brands such as Diesel, Lee and Levi’s. He is credited with popularising the ‘trucker cap’ for the Von Dutch brand, along with the “flashy bling-bling look” in the early 2000s.
