Alipay checks in to Hong Kong

Alibaba’s electronic payments service Alipay.com has launched a new alliance with hotel group Marriott International which extends into Hong Kong.
Under the agreement announced this week, Alipay will be accepted at 10 Marriott properties in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and the Hainan resort city of Sanya.
In time, other Marriott properties will be included in the partnership, first in Asia and then in other countries popular among Chinese tourists next year.
The partnership sets the scene for Alipay to start paring away at the market share of China rival UnionPay.
