Christmas twist at Mandarin Gallery

With the theme “Flirting with Christmas”, Singapore’s Mandarin Gallery is taking a grown-up approach to the festive season with a less-padded Father Christmas who looks more like a runway model.

Plus there is a plethora of pianos to add a special musical twist to the promotion, thanks to a partnership with the public piano movement, Play It Forward Singapore.

Santa, sporting a fashionable wardrobe, will appear with his elves at weekends ready for photo ops. Shoppers who post photos of themselves together with Santa on Instagram with the hashtags #MGFlirt or #MGNaughtyOrNice go in the draw to win one of 12 prizes of SG$100 worth of shopping vouchers. There will also be a Mandarin Gallery Gift It Forward mystery gift worth S$1000 for each of four lucky shoppers.

Meanwhile, the centre is decked out with pre-loved pianos, from one in ivory white with angel wings to another in rainbow colours. Shoppers are welcome to play the pianos, plus there will be scheduled performances by pianists and other performers.

“We wanted people to love playing music again,” says Play It Forward Singapore founder Jean Hair. “But what if these pianos can look interesting too? We collaborated with local artists and designers to transform old pianos into public-art pieces while still instruments for people to play on.”

Performers will include pianists August Lum, Caleb Tay, Calin Wong (also a vocalist), Jerek Khoo, Joel Nah and Tan Yao Zong, and singers Amanda Lee, Audris Ho and Vanessa Phang, plus award-winning acapella band MICapella.
The last day of the promotion is December 26.
